Safe, secure, and affordable housing remains a critical challenge in communities across North America. Track 1 delegates will take a housing tour that highlights tangible solutions implemented in Whistler and other resort towns. Through innovative, creative, and persistent efforts, these communities have made meaningful progress in removing barriers and advancing new housing policy, increasing supply, and improving affordability strategies that can be applied elsewhere.
- Track 2: In Pursuit of Balance: Recreation, Resources and Nature - Session/Tour Leaders: Claire Ruddy (Whistler). As international bodies around the world recognise the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss, mountain and resort towns have unique opportunities to embrace nature-based solutions, especially within the contexts of population and visitation growth. Track 2 talks and tour will share insights into leading conservation mechanisms, managing forests for climate and biodiversity resilience, planning for nature-based recreation that respect nature, and more.
